All depends on which college you're interviewing for.
If you're trying to get into a very high class college, I'd recommend nice shoes.
If it's a regular college, street shoes should be fine. In fact, nicer street clothes should be okay too.
They should really look more at your grades than at anything else. It's not a job interview after all.
If you're applying for any type of arts school, you should be able to go in torn jeans and it won't matter ;)
Is it really necessary for me to have dress shoes for the dress clothes for the college interview?
No it doesn't really matter. Look presentable, but don't make it about the clothes. Make it about YOU.
Wear something that makes YOU feel good and reflects your style, so that you can perform your best on the interview. The interviewer is looking at your personality, etc.
This applies to ALL colleges, even the most prestigious ones.

Reply:WELL IF YOU WANT TO MAKE A GOOD IMPRESSION THEN IT PROBABLY IS A GOOD IDEA
Reply:Yes. Try thrift stores in your area for an incredibly cheap pair of good dress shoes. Look in the Yellow Pages under "thrift stores".
