What are the best materials to make soles of dress shoes from and who are some manufactuers that can make 'em?

IMHO leather is best material for the soles of men's shoes. (And the uppers, too!) I have some men's dress shoes that are about 25 years old, and are still going strong having been resoled with leather many times.

That's the nice thing about leather soles - the shoes can be repaired. The shoes require routine maintenance with leather dressings to last 25 years, though....

The problem with leather soles is that they get slippery on smooth, wet surfaces. But how often do most people routinely plan to go out in wet weather with good dress shoes?

Look in the yellow pages of your phone book, and look look for "shoe repair" (or "boot repair" if you're in an area where boots are used for agricultural work). Call those places up, they can most likely point you to a supplier, or sell you some.
